25 Suspected Al-Qaeda Fighters Killed In Yemen Drone Strikes, Clashes

Reports out of Yemen say 25 militants with suspected links to Al-Qaeda have been killed in suspected U.S. drone strikes and clashes with government troops.

Drone attacks killed 10 in the provinces of Marib and Shabwa, southeast of the capital, Sana'a, on May 12.

The military said another 15 militants were killed in an offensive by government forces in Abyan province in southern Yemen.

In the past two weeks, suspected U.S. air strikes have killed at least three senior Al-Qaeda operatives in southern Yemen.

Yemeni officials have reported more frequent U.S. drone strikes since Yemen's new president, Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi, took power in February after longtime leader Ali Abdullah Saleh stepped down.

Hadi has since ramped up the fight against Al-Qaeda militants.
