State TV in Egypt reports that one police officer has been shot dead in clashes between security forces and armed groups on the outskirts of Cairo early on September 19.
The report said troops had moved into the Kerdasah district to arrest people suspected of torching police stations and killing 11 security officers in clashes that erupted following the army's ouster of Islamist President Muhammad Morsi in July.
State media said police forces took control of the area and imposed a curfew.
Separately, state news agency MENA reported that Egyptian explosives experts defused two primitive bombs planted on the Cairo metro line on September 19, causing a partial closure of the network.
The bombs had been found close to the Helmeyet el-Zaytoun station in northeast Cairo.
Meanwhile, Egypt has announced it is cutting a curfew in Cairo and 12 provinces back to five hours nightly.
