The White House says reports that the United States is planning to halt all military assistance to Egypt are “false.”
Caitlin Hayden, a spokeswoman for President Barack Obama’s National Security Council, said in a statement that the administration will announce the future of U.S. assistance to Egypt’s military-backed government in the coming days.
The statement added that Obama, in his September address to the United Nations General Assembly, had made clear that U.S. aid to Egypt "will continue."
The administration has been reviewing its assistance to Egypt in the wake of the military’s July 3 ouster of democratically-elected President Muhammad Morsi.
Washington has provided more than $1 billion in aid annually to Egypt as part of a policy aimed at ensuring stability in the country.
