Egypt's New Parliament Set To Hold First Session

As parliament gets set to sit for its first session, demonstrations still take place against the Egyptian military council at Tahrir square in Cairo.

Egypt's newly elected parliament holds its first session today.

The party of the Muslim Brotherhood was the big winner in Egypt's first free vote in decades.

It has vowed to guide Egypt in the transition to civilian rule after generals took charge following the ouster of Hosni Mubarak last February.

One of the first steps in the session will be electing the speaker, set to be the nominee of the Brotherhood's Freedom and Justice Party.

Youth movements said they would demonstrate outside the assembly to ensure protesters killed in the uprising were not forgotten.
