Eight Police Officers Reported Killed In South Afghanistan

Police officers and security officials clear the debris after a suicide blast in Lashkar Gah, which killed five people.

Reports from southern Afghanistan say eight police officers were shot and killed in an attack on a checkpoint in Helmand Province.

Local officials said three policemen were wounded in the overnight attack near the provincial main town, Lashkar Gah.

Another police officer who was part of the group manning the checkpoint is missing. On September 27, five people were killed in a suicide car bombing in Lashkar Gah, two months after British troops handed the Afghan government control.
