Turkey Prime Minister Erdogan Leaves Hospital After Surgery

Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan

Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan has been discharged from a hospital after undergoing what officials said was a second intestinal surgery.

Erdogan's office said the 57-year-old leader left the hospital in Istanbul late on February 12 after a successful 30-minute operation.

Officials said the procedure had been scheduled and that it "brought an end to the treatment" Erdogan has been receiving.

He is due to take several days of rest at his Istanbul residence before resuming his official duties.

Erdogan had an initial surgery on November 26 for noncancerous intestinal polyps.

He is leader of the Islamic-rooted Justice and Development Party (AKP), which has been in government since 2002.
