BRUSSELS -- European Commission President Jose Manuel Barroso says the European Union is committed to signing an Association Agreement with Georgia next month.
Barroso also said that Russian President Vladimir Putin assured him in January that Moscow will not interfere in the EU's plans.
The European Union plans to sign an Association Agreement -- a key trade and political pact -- with Georgia on June 27.
Barroso met with Georgian Prime Minister Irakli Garibashvili on May 21 in Brussels.
The Georgian prime minister also said he had received reassurances from Moscow and that he was confident the signature would happen "without any problems."
Barroso, meanwhile, pointed out that the agreement was not the "last post" in relations between Brussels and Tbilisi but refused to commit to specific dates and goals for the future.
He also announced that he would visit Georgia in June to participate in an international conference aimed at attracting foreign investment to the country.
