EU Hands Accession Treaty To Croatia

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk

Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has delivered an EU draft accession treaty for Zagreb to sign in December so that it can join the union in 2013.

Tusk, whose country holds the EU rotating presidency, said in Zagreb that Croatia's accession will be "a big injection of optimism that brings confidence in the EU's future."

Croatian Prime Minister Jadranka Kosor said Zagreb had "realized its strategic goal."

After Slovenia, Croatia will become the second former Yugoslav state to join the EU.
