Ukraine Sentences Euromaidan Activist Attacker

A court in eastern Ukraine has convicted a woman for beating a wounded pro-European activist.

The court in the government-controlled city of Kharkiv found Olha Vorzheinova, a 53-year-old nurse from the town of Chuguyev, guilty of hooliganism on February 9 and sentenced her to 18 months of "limited freedom."

The sentence means Vorzheinova will be sent to a penal colony where inmates work at a state-run industrial facility. Inmates have the right to leave the penitentiary to visit their relatives and friends on certain days.

A video showing Vorzheinova kicking Euromaidan activist Volodymyr Sylevych went viral on the Internet last year.

The footage showed Sylevych severely wounded and bleeding.

The clip was shot during clashes between pro-European and pro-Russian activists on April 13, 2014.
