World soccer governing body FIFA has asked the English Football Association (FA) for evidence to back up former FA President David Triesman's accusations that four executive committee members sought favors in return for votes.
Triesman told a British parliamentary inquiry on May 10 that executive committee members Jack Warner, Ricardo Teixeira, Nicolas Leoz, and Worawi Makudi had sought incentives to vote for England's unsuccesful bid to host the 2018 World Cup.
The claims are a major embarrassment for FIFA and come less than a month before President Sepp Blatter stands for reelection in a poll where Asian Football Confederation chief Mohamed Bin Hamman is opposing him.
