Fire Extinguished At Petrochemical Factory In Southwest Iran

Firefighters have extinguished a fire at a petrochemical factory in the southwestern oil-rich province of Khuzestan, Iranian news agencies reported on July 7.

The reports said it took several hours to extinguish the fire, which began on July 6.

State news agency IRNA quoted Mansour Qamar the governor of Mahshahr -- where the Bou Ali Sina factory is located -- as saying there were no casualties.

“There is no need to worry, the conditions have returned to normal and the fire has been contained,” Qamar told IRNA.

He added that the cause of the fire and the extent of the damage will be soon determined and made public.

The Bou Ali Sina factory, affiliated with Iran’s state-owned National Petrochemical Company, opened in 1998.

Petrochemical products are among Iran's top exports.
