The Fitch rating agency has confirmed its AAA rating of the United States, 10 days after another major rating agency, dealt the country its first-ever downgrade.
Standard & Poor's said the downgrade from AAA to AA+ -- due to its heavy debt burden.
Fitch said that its decision was based on the fact that "the key pillars of the United States' exceptional creditworthiness remain intact: its pivotal role in the global financial system and the flexible, diversified and wealthy economy that provides its revenue base."
