Flash Floods Kill At Least 42 In Afghanistan

At least 42 people have been killed and more than 100 are missing after flash floods hit northern and western Afghanistan.

At least 16 people died in the city of Sheberghan, in northern Jowzjan Province.

Dozens of others are missing after the floodwaters hit the Qosh Tepa, Darzab, and Khoja Do Koh districts overnight on April 25.

Jowzjan Deputy Governor Abdul Rahman Mahmoudi said nine villages in Darzab were destroyed.

He said helicopters were being used to rescue people in areas hit by the flood, which he said were the worst in the area in 30 years.

Mahmoudi said thousands of people have been displaced.

Meanwhile, at least eight people were reported killed in the northwestern Badghis and Herat provinces, with dozens of others missing.
