Former Russian Banker Victim Of Apparent Assassination Bid In London

The former owner of several banks in Russia and Moldova was seriously wounded in an apparent assassination attempt in London earlier this week.

Police announced on March 23 that former Konvers Group owner German Gorbuntsov had been shot several times on March 20 by an unknown gunman with a machine gun near a block of flats at Canary Wharf. He is in a critical condition.

According to his lawyer, Gorbuntsov recently provided Moscow police with new information about the attempted assassination of banker Aleksandr Antonov in Moscow in 2009.

Three ethnic Chechens were convicted of the attack on Antonov, but the organizer of the crime has not been established.

According to "Kommersant," Gorbuntsov, Antonov, and several other men are entangled in civil actions concerning the property of the banks and companies owned by Konvers Group.
