At Least Four Killed In Attack On Pakistani Sunni Leader

Pakistani police say gunmen have opened fire on a prominent Sunni cleric in the southern city of Karachi, killing at least four people.

Police said the cleric, Maulana Aurangzeb Farooqi, was injured when the gunmen opened fire on the vehicle that was carrying him earlier on December 25.

At least three of his guards and his driver were killed.

Farooqi leads Ahle Sunnat-Wal-Jamaat, a small political party.

No one has claimed responsibility for the attack, but Farooqi's party says he had been targeted by a rival Shi'ite group.

Karachi has a long history of sectarian violence involving the country's majority Sunni Muslims and minority Shi'a.
