Around 100 people have been reported arrested in Paris following confrontations between police and protesters during demonstrations against France’s new law allowing gay marriage and adoption.
Police estimated that some 150,000 people attended the May 26 protest. Organizers put the number much higher.
The demonstration was organized by groups describing themselves as pro-traditionalist.
The demonstration began peacefully but reports said far-right activists stirred up scuffles with police, who fired tear gas to disperse crowds in the Esplanade des Invalides in central Paris.
The same-sex marriage bill was signed into law by President Francois Hollande earlier in May.
