EU Ministers To Discuss Tightening Borders

French Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve has urged Europe to take urgent counterterrorism measures after having "wasted too much time."

Cazeneuve made the comments on November 20 as he arrived for emergency talks with his EU counterparts in Brussels following last week’s terrorist attacks in Paris.

He called on the bloc to tighten checks on travelers at the external borders of the passport-free Schengen area and to move forward on a system for collecting airline passenger data.

On November 19, French prosecutors announced that the suspected Belgian mastermind of the Paris assaults, in which 129 people were killed, was among those killed in a police raid the previous day.

France says Abdelhamid Abaaoud, an Islamic State militant from Belgium, had traveled undetected from Syria to France.

According to Prime Minister Manuel Valls, some of the Paris attackers had taken advantage of Europe's migrant crisis to "slip in" unnoticed.
