G20 To Discuss How To Prevent Future Economic Crises

The G20 group is to convene again in Washington following a meeting in France in February 2011.

Finance ministers and central bankers from the G20 rich and emerging nations are meeting in Washington today to discuss risks to the global recovery and how to prevent future economic crises.

G20 officials are expected to flesh out a plan for building a world economy less prone to the booms and busts that have marked the past two decades.

At a separate meeting in China on Thursday, the BRICS group of emerging markets -- Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa -- called for a revamped global monetary system that relies less on the dollar.

The group also called for better representation in global financial institutions.
