Georgia's state minister for European and Euro-Atlantic integration says Tbilisi has asked on November 25 the UN Security Council to discuss the legality of the recently signed treaty on alliance and strategic partnership by Moscow and Georgia's breakaway region of Abkhazia.
David Bakradze said that he discussed the issue of the Russian-Abkhaz treaty with the U.S. Ambassador to Georgia Richard Norland on November 26.
Bakradze told the media after the talks that Norland reiterated Washington’s support for Georgia's stance regarding the controversial treaty.
Russia and separatist leadership of Abkhazia signed the "strategic partnership" deal in Sochi earlier on November 24.
According to the document, Russian and Abkhaz forces in the territory will turn into a joint force led by a Russian commander.
Tbilisi condemned the pact as an attempt by Moscow to annex the region.
