Final Georgian Election Results Released

Georgia's Central Election Commission has released the final results of the country's October 1 parliamentary elections.

The commission confirmed that the Georgian Dream bloc led by billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili will have 85 of the 150 seats in the new parliament.

President Mikheil Saakashvili's United National Movement (ENM) will have 65 seats.

Electoral officials said Georgian Dream received 54.97 percent of the vote for party lists, winning 44 out of the 77 seats allocated based on party lists. The ENM received 40.34 percent, or 33 seats.

Georgian Dream also won in 41 of the 73 constituencies where lawmakers are directly elected. The ENM won in 32.

Voter turnout was 61.31 percent.

The new parliament is scheduled to convene for its first session in Kutaisi on October 21.
