Georgian Dream, Georgia's ruling party, nominated its leader Irakli Kobakhidze as its candidate for prime minister on February 1, just days after Irakli Gharibashvili stepped down to give the party time to prepare for general elections that are to be held in the Caucasus nation by October. Controversial billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, who founded Georgian Dream, returned in December as the party’s so-called honorary chairman and nominated Kobakhidze.
