German police in the eastern city of Chemnitz have stormed a flat and detained a man in connection with the hunt for a Syrian refugee suspected of planning a bomb attack.
Tom Bernhardt, a spokesman for the Saxony state criminal investigation office, said no one was injured in the operation and no shots were fired.
The 22-year-old Syria-born, Jaber al-Bakr, remains on the run.
Saxony police have released pictures of Bakr wearing a black, hooded sweatshirt with a colorful print.
They have urged anyone with information about him to come forward.
German security sources have said Bakr was known by intelligence officials and was thought to be connected to Islamic extremist groups.
Three other Syrian men, believed to be Bakr’s accomplices, were arrested on October 8 and questioned.
