Greenpeace Attempt To Block Russian Tanker Foiled

An attempt by activists from the environmental group Greenpeace to block a Russian tanker loaded with Arctic oil from docking in Rotterdam was foiled by Dutch police.

Police arrested more than 30 Greenpeace activists aboard the organization's ship, the "Rainbow Warrior," including the captain.

Greenpeace intended to prevent the "Mikhail Ulyanov" from docking at Rotterdam.

Activists aboard smaller boats were able to get alongside the tanker and paint "No Arctic Oil" on the side of the Russian vessel.

The captain of the "Rainbow Warrior" is Peter Willcox, who was also captain of the ship "Arctic Sunrise" when it was seized by Russian authorities in September near a Russian oil rig in the northern Pechora Sea.

Thirty people aboard, including Willcox, were arrested and charged with piracy.
