Gunmen Kill At Least Nine Pakistani Security Personnel In Lahore

In Pakistan, officials say nine police trainees have been shot dead by gunmen who attacked a building where they were sleeping in the eastern city of Lahore.

Pakistani Taliban spokesman Ahsanullah Ahsan said Taliban militants had carried out the attack to avenge the police torture of militants in prison.

Reports say those who were killed in the early morning attack on July 12 were training to become prison guards.

Officials said the attack was carried out by masked gunmen who arrived at the police hostel on motorcycles.

It was the second attack in three days on security personnel in the province of Punjab.

On July 9, gunmen on motorbikes shot dead seven security personnel at an army camp less than 150 kilometers southeast of Islamabad.
