Suicide Bomber Kills At Least Eight In Iraq

U.S. Marines are pictured here with Iraqi schoolchildren in Haditha.

A suicide bomber has killed at least eight people and wounded about a dozen at a bank in the Iraqi town of Haditha, northwest of Baghdad.

Police sources said the bomber blew himself up at the state-owned bank as people were waiting to collect their salaries.

At least six of those killed were police officers.

Haditha is in the mostly Sunni province of Anbar, which used to be an Al-Qaeda stronghold. However, since 2006 local Sunni tribes have sided with the U.S. military and unrest has dwindled as rebel fighters have been ejected from the region.
