Insurgents Killed in Attack On Afghan Spy Agency

An Afghan official says at least three Taliban insurgents were killed on May 10 when they attacked an office of Afghanistan's intelligence agency in the southern part of the country.

The attack at the intelligence agency office in the southern city of Kandahar also left four employees wounded.

Hasib Sediqi, spokesman for the National Directorate for Security, says a suicide bomber detonated his explosives-laden vehicle near the agency's building early on May 10.

Seddiqi says guards at the compound's gate shot and killed two other insurgents involved in the attack.

Taliban spokesman Qari Yousaf Ahmadi claimed responsibility for the attack in an e-mail.

He also claimed responsibility for an ongoing attack in the northwestern Badghis Province in which insurgents attacked government offices in Jawand district.

Mirwais Mirzakwal, a spokesman for the provincial governor, says Taliban gunmen are dug in near the district's main bazaar.
