Iran, Boeing Reach Deal On Purchase Of 100 Planes

Iran and aerospace giant Boeing have reached an agreement for the purchase of 100 aircraft to add to the country’s aging fleet.

Out of 250 planes in the country, 230 need to be replaced, according to Ali Abedzadeh, the head of Iran’s civil aviation body.

Boeing would need U.S. government approval to finalize its deal.

Boeing confirmed on June 15 that it was in talks with Iranian airlines interested in buying its passenger planes.

Iran has ordered about 200 planes from three Western manufacturers since mid-January when economic sanctions were lifted following a deal on Tehran’s nuclear program.

Tehran has long said it will need to revamp its aging fleet, hit by a shortage of parts because of previous trade bans imposed by Washington and other Western powers.
