Iran's Foreign Ministry says it has released a Marshall-Islands flagged cargo ship that had been seized by Iranian patrol boats in the Strait of Hormuz in late April.
The ministry said on May 7 that the 24 crew members of the Maersk Tigris also were released, and the ship has left Iran's territorial waters.
Meanwhile, the operator of the ship has confirmed the release of the ship, saying that the crew was in "good condition."
The cargo ship was diverted on April 28 amid a dispute over debts owed to a private Iranian firm by the Danish shipping company Maersk.
Iranian authorities insisted the Maersk Tigris and its crew would only be released after the years-old debt case was settled.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham had said on May 6 that negotiations between the private parties involved in the case were close to being resolved.
Maersk chartered the ship, which is owned by undisclosed private investors.
