A U.S.-based cybersecurity firm says Iranian hackers have infiltrated some of the world's top energy, transport, and infrastructure companies during the past two years.
A report by the firm Cylance says state-sponsored Iranian computer hackers are conducting a campaign that, if left unchallenged, would allow them to eventually impact “the world’s physical safety.”
Cylance did not identify specific companies but said they include major aerospace firms, airports and airlines, universities, energy firms, hospitals, and telecommunications companies.
It said targeted firms are in the United States, Israel, China, Saudi Arabia, India, Germany, France, Britain, and other countries.
Hamid Babaei, a spokesman for Iran’s United Nations mission, dismissed the report as a “baseless and unfounded allegation fabricated to tarnish the Iranian government image” and undermine Tehran’s nuclear negotiations with world powers.
Cylance founder and CEO Stuart McClure is the co-author of “Hacking Exposed,” one of the seminal books about information security.
