Iran Claims Israeli Drone Was Launched From Ex-Soviet Republic

A picture released by the official website of Iran's Revolutionary Guards on August 25 shows an alleged Israeli drone that was shot down above the Natanz uranium-enrichment site.

An Iranian military official says that an alleged Israeli drone shot down close to the Natanz nuclear facility was launched from a former Soviet republic to the north of Iran.

Brigadier General Masud Jazayeri, deputy chief of staff of Iran’s armed forces, did not specify the country when he made the claim to Tehran's semiofficial Fars news agency on August 27.

But he said Tehran would announce the name of the country unless it took "compensatory actions."

Iran’s Revolutionary Guards claimed on August 25 that it shot down an Israeli drone near Natanz.

In Baku, officials have denied a report alleging that the drone was launched from Azerbaijan’s territory.

Ali Hasanov, an official from Azerbaijan's presidential administration, described the report as a "provocation by outside circles."

Azerbaijan's ties with Israel have caused tensions in its relations with Iran.
