U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has cautioned French companies about hurrying to Iran to sign business deals.
Reports from Washington on February 5 said Kerry called his French counterpart, Laurent Fabius, to say the visit of a French business delegation to Tehran earlier this week "is not helpful" to negotiations currently under way to convince Iran to halt its nuclear development program.
More than 100 executives from France's biggest companies were in Tehran for talks on February 3.
Iranian Deputy Oil Minister for International Affairs Ali Majedi said on February 5 that Gaz de France "declared…it is ready to cooperate with Iran."
Majedi also mentioned that Total and Technip had expressed interest in cooperation with Iran.
U.S. Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman said on February 4 that "Tehran is not open for business."
