Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei says average Iranians have not yet benefited from a nuclear deal signed with world powers last year that lifted economic sanctions against the country.
Khamenei said in a speech in Tehran on August 1 that Iranians had seen no "tangible effect" in their daily lives as a result of the end of sanctions, which he complained had not all been lifted.
He said Washington was supposed to quickly end the sanctions against Iran but instead they were only being gradually lifted, complaining as well that foreign companies were not yet investing in Iran.
Khamenei also criticized the United States for making "bad promises" and that Tehran should not "trust America's promises."
The nuclear deal, which Iran signed with six world powers last summer, lifted multilateral economic sanctions against Iran in exchange for the curbing of Iran's controversial nuclear program.
Iranian President Hassan Rohani had pledged to Iranians that the ending of sanctions would bring economic growth and new jobs to Iran.
Khamenei gave measured approval to the nuclear deal when it was signed but has regularly criticized it since it was implemented.
