Iran Lauds Cooperation With Russia In Syria

A leading Iranian parliamentarian has said his country's cooperation with Russia, Syria, and Iraq hasproved "successful" in fighting terrorism in the region.

Alaeddin Boroujerdi, chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Committee of Iran's parliament, was speaking ahead of talks with Syrian officials -- including President Bashar al-Assad -- in Damascus later on October 14.

Boroujerdi said the U.S.-led anti-terrorism coalition has failed to achieve results, opening the way for a more successful intervention.

Moscow, which began its aerial bombing campaign in Syria on September 30, said it is targeting Islamic State and other militant groups. But it has also struck positions of rebel groups backed by the West and other regional players.

The Russian intervention is supported by an intelligence-sharing center in Baghdad that coordinates the efforts of Russia, Iraq, Iran, and Syria.
