Filmmaker Rasoulof Reportedly Stuck In Iran

Mohammad Rasoulof

Iranian director Mohammad Rasoulof is reportedly being prevented from leaving Iran.

The Nuremburg International Human Rights Film Festival said on October 2 that Rasoulof had his passport confiscated by the Iranian authorities when he entered Iran on September 19, preventing him from returning to Germany as planned.

The filmmaker, who lives and works in Hamburg and Teheran, was due to accept an award in Nuremburg on October 8.

Rasoulof is also invited to the Stockholm International Film Festival next month to present his latest film, "Manuscripts Don’t Burn."

On October 1, he was due to attend the German premiere of the film at the Hamburg Film Festival.

In 2010, Rasoulof was jailed for six years for antigovernment propaganda -- a sentence that later was later reduced to one year.
