Suspected Suicide Bomber Shot Dead In Iran

Iranian security forces have shot dead a suspected suicide bomber.

Iranian news agencies reported the incident happened in the southern port city of Chabahar early on July 9 when security forces observed a man trying to enter a police headquarters.

The man reportedly fired on security personnel, wounding several of them, before he was shot dead.

Chabahar Governor Iraj Heydari said the man was "wearing a suicide vest and carrying a grenade."

The identity of the slain man was not released.

Chabahar is located in Iran's Sistan-Baluchistan Province, an impoverished area that is home to a Sunni majority.

In October 2012, a suicide bomber blew himself up outside a mosque in the same region.

In December 2010, two suicide bombers targeted a Shi'ite mourning procession in Chabahar, killing at least 38 people.
