Iran's foreign minister says the nuclear deal reached between Tehran and world powers would be "dead" if the U.S. Congress slaps fresh sanctions on Iran, even if they do not take effect for six months.
Speaking to the U.S. news magazine, "Time", Javad Zarif said Tehran would not "negotiate under duress."
On November 24 in Geneva, Iran and six world powers struck an interim deal, under which Tehran would curb its nuclear program in exchange for limited relief from international economic sanctions.
Some U.S. senators have been debating the idea of imposing new sanctions on Iran that would kick in after six months if Iran violated terms of the November 24 deal.
The White House has urged U.S. lawmakers to not pursue further sanctions and allow time for negotiations to work.
