Iran has denied having any part in a Shi'ite militia's seizure of power in Yemen.
U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry had accused Iran on February 24 of supporting Shi'ite Huthi rebels who captured the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, last year.
Iranian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Marzieh Afkham said on February 25 that Kerry's statement is "nothing but a blame game completely in contradiction to what was previously mentioned by U.S. officials."
Afkham did not specify which U.S. officials or what they allegedly said.
The official IRNA news agency quoted Afkham as saying, "Iran's fundamental approach is that nations should determine their fate with their own hands."
Afkham added, "Any foreign intervention would further complicate the situation of this country."
Several majority-Sunni countries, such as Saudi Arabia, have also accused Iran of being involved in the Huthis' rise to power in Yemen.
