Iran Puts Alleged U.S. Spy On Trial

A man who identifies himself as Amir Mirza Hekmati appears on Iranian state television.

Iran's Fars news agency reports that the trial of alleged U.S. spy Amir Mirza Hekmati has started in a Tehran court.

Hekmati was arrested last week and reportedly confessed to being deceived into spying for the U.S. Central Intelligence Agency.

The 28-year-old former U.S. Marine was shown on state television last week claiming he was a CIA agent, that he trained in Afghanistan and Iraq, and was tasked with infiltrating Iran's secret service.

Hekmati's father, Ali Hekmati, said from the family's home in Michigan that his son was not a CIA agent and traveled to Iran to visit relatives.
