Iranian Military Delegation Visits China

An Iranian military delegation has met with Chinese officials in Beijing for talks on cooperation.

The Iranian group was led by Defense Minister and Armed Forces Logistics General Hoseyn Dehkan, who met with Defense Minister Chang Wanquan on May 5.

According to Chinese news agency Xinhua, Chang welcomed the strengthening military relationship between the two countries that included "personnel training cooperation between the armed forces."

Dehkan said the expansion of military ties between Iran and China contributed to the fight against extremism, terrorism, drug trafficking, and piracy.

Dehkan said that "a powerful China is a guarantee for international security and peace," and added, "A powerful Iran is a guarantee for peace, stability, and durable security in the strategic region of the Persian Gulf."

The Iranian delegation's visit precedes a planned visit by Iran's president to China.
