Senior Iraqi Army Officer, Judge Killed In Bombings

A suicide bomber has killed a senior Iraqi Army intelligence officer and at least two of his bodyguards near the northern city of Mosul.

Police say the bomber detonated his explosives belt outside Brigadier General Ali Aouni's home in Tal Afar on February 16.

Aouni was the head of Iraq's main intelligence academy.

Elsewhere, a Sunni Arab judge was killed when a bomb placed under his car went off in a village north of Baghdad.

Reports say the judge, Ahmad al-Bayati, had previously been working as an anti-terror investigator, and had to pay kidnappers a ransom after his son was kidnapped last year.

No group has claimed responsibility for the bombings, the latest in a series of deadly attacks since the beginning of the year.

Earlier this month, more than 30 people were killed in a series of car bombings in mainly Shi'ite areas of Iraq.
