Bomb Kills Two Officials In Northern Iraqi Town

Iraqi police say powerful explosives attached to a car has killed two local officials and wounded another in northern Iraq.

The head of a local council and a council member were reportedly traveling to inspect a road-paving project in the town of Tuz Khormato on March 26 when a bomb went off close to their car.

The mayor of the town was seriously injured in the attack.

The victims were both candidates in provincial elections set to take place on April 20.

AFP reports a total of 13 candidates in the elections now have been killed.

Authorities have already postponed the voting in two provinces.

Tuz Khormato is in disputed territory claimed by the government in Baghdad and also by the country's autonomous Kurdish region.
