Iraqi security forces were engaged in heavy fighting with Islamic State militants in the Old City of Mosul on April 4. Iraqi officers said they were closing in on the Al-Nuri Mosque, a strategic stronghold for the militants and the place where Islamic State leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi declared a caliphate in July 2014.
