An Iraqi court has dropped corruption charges against parliament speaker Salim al-Jaburi.
The allegations of graft were raised in parliament on August 1 by Defense Minister Khalid al-Obeidi, who alleged that Juburi and several other lawmakers were corrupt and had sought to blackmail him.
The accused have denied the allegations.
A travel ban was later placed on the accused and an investigation was launched.
But a judiciary spokesman said on August 9 that a Baghdad court had dropped the charges against Jaburi that day due to lack of evidence.
The fate of the others who were accused by Obeidi was not immediately clear.
The court ruling came hours after parliament voted to strip Jaburi of immunity.
The government of Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi has faced growing antigovernment protests demanding reform and calling for a fight against rampant corruption.
