International Meeting On Iraq, Syria Planned For June 2

France says it will host an international meeting on the conflicts in Iraq and Syria on June 2.

Government spokesman Stephane Le Foll made the announcement on May 20.

The announcement comes as IS fighters captured around a third of Syria's ancient city of Palmyra and the Iraqi government called for volunteers to help retake the western city of Ramadi from the militants.

The last such summit, which was held in Paris in September 2014, saw representatives from some 30 countries and international organizations.

The nations discussed what roles each would play in the U.S.-led coalition against the Islamic State (IS) extremist group, which seized large swaths of territory across Iraq and Syria in June 2014.
