Islamic State Claims Killing Of Senior Saudi Police Officer

Islamic State says its militants were behind the assassination of a police colonel in Saudi Arabia.

The Saudi Interior Ministry confirmed that Colonel Kitab Majid al-Hammadi was shot dead early on April 5 in Al-Dawadmi, some 200 kilometers west of the capital, Riyadh.

The statement issued by the Islamic State (IS) group's Najd Province also named the colonel, saying he worked in the Interior Ministry's General Investigation unit.

The local IS affiliate claimed on April 3 that it was behind a weekend attack against police vehicles in the city of Al-Dalam.

It has also previously claimed responsibility for three bombings in eastern Saudi Arabia and in Kuwait that killed 53 people last year.
