U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry has arrived in Israel to try push forward peace talks between Israel and the Palestinians.

Kerry was scheduled to meet with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Jerusalem on January 2.

He is to travel to the West Bank on January 3 to hold talks with Palestinian Authority President Mahmud Abbas.

Kerry's four-day visit is his 10th to the region since taking office in March 2013 to help craft a peace accord.

A State Department official was quoted as saying Kerry aims to hammer out a framework to guide the sides through the final months of talks, due to end in late April after an agreed nine-month negotiating period.
