Thousands Of Jordanians March In Favor Of Reform

Protesters from opposition parties shout slogans against the government at a demonstration January 21.

Thousands of Jordanians demonstrated in Amman and other cities after Friday prayers today to press for political and economic reform and to demand that the government resign.

An estimated 3,000 people marched in the center of the capital, Amman, holding national flags and chanting slogans in support of Egyptian protesters.

Police said around 2,000 people staged protests in two other cities, Irbid and Karak, answering a call by the Muslim Brotherhood movement.

It was the third consecutive Friday of anti-government protests in Jordan inspired by recent unrest in Tunisia and Egypt.

Jordan’s King Abdullah II has promised to introduce some reforms.
