Man Sets Himself On Fire Outside Kaliningrad Mayor's Office

Police and eyewitnesses say a man has set himself on fire outside the mayor's office in the Russian city of Kaliningrad.

Police said the unidentified man, believed to be in his 30s or 40s, was hospitalized after he poured gasoline on his body and set it alight on February 6.

Drivers and passersby managed to put the fire out and called an ambulance.

News reports quoted eyewitnesses as saying the man appeared to have suffered severe burns, but there was no official word on his condition or a possible motive.

Some eyewitnesses said the man had placed a written note near the entrance to the mayor's office in the city, the capital of the Baltic Sea exclave of Kaliningrad.
