Afghan President Hamid Karzai says Afghanistan won't sign a strategic partnership deal with the United States until NATO-led night raids and house searches stop.
Karzai's remarks came after he heard back from a government-appointed group investigating civilian casualties sustained during recent NATO air strikes and night raids.
His office said in a statement on December 24 that "The president stressed that the strategic partnership document will not be signed until the night raids and house searches stop."
The strategic partnership deal being brokered with Washington is to govern the relationship between U.S. troops and the Afghan government after the scheduled withdrawal of combat troops in 2014.
