Gunmen Kill 10 In Kashmir Attacks

Suspected militants have attacked a police station and an army barracks in the Indian portion of Kashmir, killing at least 10 people.

Media reports said three militants dressed in Indian army uniforms attacked the police station in the town of Hiranagar near the border with Pakistan on September 26, killing four policemen and two civilians.

They then hijacked a truck and drove to an army base where they killed four soldiers.

The militants were also killed in the gunbattle.

There has been no claim of responsibility.

Both India and Pakistan claim Kashmir in its entirety.

India has accused Pakistan of backing Islamist militants who have been fighting Indian rule in Kashmir for more than two decades.

The prime ministers of India and Pakistan are due to meet at the UN General Assembly this weekend.
